Hail Kinak,
After retrieving my Pokemon from the Pokemon Center, I made my way to the Indigo Plateau. The path was very much deserted, even by vegetation. The upgrade path proved tiresome on my legs. As I came to the mouth of a cave, I decided to take a rest. I had no idea how deep the cave went but would get a fresh start on it the very next day. The sun fell past the horizon. Beyond my camp fire, a ring of darkness bound me. Above the fire, a small black dot appeared and grew outward. I was almost scared, but the familiar fanged smile and eerie laughter calmed me down.
"Oh, it's just you, Rei." The specter continued chuckling. It stared through me. At first I though this to be one of its silly mind games, but then a bolt of psychic energy crackled from its forehead towards me. I ducked the attack just in time. "What's gotten into you, Rei?" I would not have asked that if the screech from behind me had come sooner.
The wail was one like that of a lost soul. Filled with mourning and despair. I turned to see two pearly white eyes shining through the night. As it displayed its silvery fangs, the beating of wings carried the creature into view. Membranous wings carried what seemed to be a huge gapping jaw. It lashed out its wings, striking my phantom. Rei focused another swell of telepathic power at the Golbat.
Dropping quickly, the Golbat dodged the blast and shot back up at Gastly, slashing its wings. Shaken by the attack, the ghost smacked the bat with its long, sticky tongue. Gradually, Rei's lingua trailed across the Golbat's face. A gelatinous film was left in its wake, freezing the foe in midair, petrified. Rei rolled back and launched another massive discharge of metaphysical force. The wave caught the bat and carried it back to the hard stone wall of the caves exterior.
The Golbat struggled to free its wing, which had become caught behind a fallen rock. Rei dashed to its opponent with its tongue flapping in the air. Sensing its approach through the gloom, it emitted a ghostly flash of light. All of the neighboring colors inverted for a short while Thinking nothing of it, I ordered Rei to continue the assault, but Rei did not listen to me. It was wandering around haphazardly, bumping into objects. It seemed as if it could not stop itself. The Golbat whipped its wing, freeing it from the rock. Gaining back its flight, it dove at Rei, brandishing pointy fangs.
The Golbat devilishly wrapped its dark wings around the Gastly and drove its fangs into the apparition. Little seemed to be accomplished by the vampiric act, as Rei still bounced around like a nincompoop. Now, though, the Golbat absorbed most of the blows. The Golbat never grew weary of the toss around, and stayed latched on to its meal. The affects of the blinding ray seemed to begin to abrade on Gastly, however, as its course took more measures to ensure damage to the Golbat. Each hit soon became more forceful. Naturally, the Golbat caught on to its intents, and removed itself from the ghost.
Flipping off Rei in a stunning example of aerobic performance, it threw open its gaping maw and fired a pillar of sonics. Vision through it was distorted and rippled. Long after it stopped, I still had a ringing in my ears. I could only imagine what Rei felt being directly inside of the core, an indication of pure agony on its face. My fire was now dying down, which made things even harder to see. The only thing that revealed either Pokemon's location was the faint glow of their eyes.
Golbat glided by Rei, clipping it with its razor wings. Turning back around, it came at Rei again, buffeting its wings once more. Rei was helpless to do anything about it. Even if it could see in the growing darkness, the devastating ringing prevented it from doing anything but cringe. It appeared to be trying to focus on ignoring the sound but not to much avail. Golbat soared by even more times yet.
Still clutching my own ears, I could not feed the fire, and it died out completely. The flapping of wings could be heard in the night., but nothing could be seen of the battle. I could barely notice due to the slow development, but a mystical haze ceaselessly gathered in the battle field. It formed a column shape and housed a black, pulsating ball. The continuing tolling still was hindering me, and it took a while to realize that it was Rei. A strange mist spiraled in the shaft. A second figure could be made out passing in and out of the structure. It was obviously the Golbat.
Rei's eyes were blank. It shrugged off any pain that came to it from the bat's sharp wings, chanting something I could not understand, most likely a forgotten tongue. Its voice rose steadily, until it broke the nerves of the Golbat, stopping it dead in front of Rei out of panic and fear. Instantly, the glowing cloud was sucked into the ghost entirely, bringing darkness once again to the area. All that was visible was a single twinkle. Focusing on the noise of fluttering wings, Rei targeted and propelled the spiritual energy. It met the Golbat hard and true, bearing it to the mouth of the cavern. Well, it did not go exactly into the mouth. First, it struck the edge, but carved through the stone with ease. The light could be seen traveling deeper within the cave. After a minute or so, we finally heard the sound of it hitting a cavern wall.
"Well," I said, "I think its safe to say we won't be encountering that one tomorrow. Eh, Rei?" I turned to see Rei laying on the ground passed out. "Oh, yeah..." I retracted my Gastly and got some shut eye as well.
