End Of Eternity
In the age before God, great evil roamed the Earth. It sought those of the darkest hearts to make its own, endowing them with its terrible power. But virtuous spirits stood against these demons, selecting their own champions to bestow their might upon. So things were in the age before God, and so they shall be after...
The End
No one saw it coming, not even the wisest philosopher or the greatest of holy men. The signs were all around but no one could see them, for they had been told the wrong things. All scriptures and all religious teachings had lied, but they could not even begin to portray it right. It came in a flash, the One True One. The impact of its arrival alone devastated a large portion of the world, reducing it to ash and salt. The seas tossed and boiled, spreading ruin far inland. All false testament to its way sank beneath the earth. Stretching out its right-hand, wrapped in golden linens, the souls of the blessed were summoned to its palm. They would be taken to an ever blissful afterlife. Stretching out its left-hand, covered in flaming spikes, the souls of the cursed were pulled into its grasp. They would face eternal pain and suffering. However, The One gazed down to find some souls remained, and the wisest today still argue over whether it felt pity or disgust while looking over them. They were too wicked for Heaven yet too good for Hell. Therefore, a decision was made that none in history and passed had expected. The One True One, in all its glory, simply left, abandoning the souls that remained. Their salvation was deliverance from the fiery pits, but their damnation was denial from paradise. They had chosen no side during their life on Earth, so life on Earth was their reward, or punishment depending on whom you asked, for the world was now without a God and forever had come to a close.
Beyond Eternity
It was assumed that less than a million people survived the so-called Apocalypse, and many more were to join the ranks of the deceased. The world was left harsh and unforgiving. A large amount was left scorched and infertile and frost began to crawl over the rest. Most technology fell worthless as there were little left who could supply for its use. The power of nations lost meaning as anarchy took hold while small groupings formed city-state like communities and the rest banded as roaming marauders. Even some basic laws of physics seemed askew. All had turned to utter chaos. Those lives not claimed by the staggering conditions claimed themselves. Normally such behavior was looked down upon, but now no one could blame them. All hope had vanished. Even the stars and celestial bodies were taken away at the departure of the One True One as a reminder that heaven was no longer obtainable. The only thoughts that might have kept one from such course of action was the fear of what could happen afterwards. What would become of an abandoned soul? Early on in the years Post Deum, this concern was fueled by the grim fact that no more people were being born. There were still conceptions and births, by right, but the products were empty, lacking mind and movement but in all other respects alive. It was on the seventh year Post Deum that new souls appeared, oddly following an increase in strange sightings of creeping things darting into the shadows. More than a passing scare, they were hauntings to all. They were truly believed to be "new," too, as they were godless creations. Even those death-like born few that had been sustained were said to be granted life then as well. Many hystarics said those things lurking in the shadows were responsible, claiming the new generation to be demon spawned, quickly earning them the title of Cambion. Despite concerns, they all seemed to grow and develop normally, or as normal as was possible in the literal post-Apocalyptic Earth. The sense of relief would be short indeed.
