Squish Pod- How to Play
Squish Pod is an easy to learn and fun to play game. Here, the basics of play are outlined as well as some more advanced techniques given. Guide Squish through a series of levels trying to extract the most score possible. Avoid enemies as you only get one chance at the run through the ongoing series of stages.
Controls
Overview
Squish Pod utilizes both the keyboard and the mouse for simultaneous coordinated action. The is used to aim attacks and guide projectiles. The keyboard is used to get around the stages. This allows you to move one direction while firing in another or to keep a lock-on a target while moving about.
Movement
The up, right, down, and left arrow keys move you in the corresponding direction. There is low traction, and you will slide a little in your step to keep movement fluid.
Attack
The left mouse button activates the basic Shot. It is a green energy blast. This weapon cannot kill enemies but stuns them for a moment, and they won't be happy about it, either, once they come to. Every attack, while buying you time and earning points, gets them madder. This can also energize Charge Stations.
Special
The right mouse button discharges the selected powerful Special action. These cannot be used all the time, however. After using one, each requires a different amount of time to recharge. Also, using one drops your Power Bar by a tenth. Use them for the most effect.
Cycling
The chosen Special can be changed with the use of Ctrl and Shift keys. They rotate the options right and left, respectively. You begin play with five options that are set and can obtain a changeable sixth while playing.
Screen Interface
Status Bar
The black bar at the bottom of the screen holds important information for getting Squish around. The components are discussed from left to right.
Special Icon
The currently selected Special is displayed in this box. If it is dimmed over, then no Special can be used. Give it some time to allow Squish to recharge.
Life Bar
Squish's current vitality is displayed with purple bars. It starts at six (6) and can reach up to as high as twelve (12). Getting hit by an enemy, their shot, or an obstacle charged with red Nega Energy takes away one life. It can be recovered at the end of each stage depending on your score.
Power Bar
The amount of energy stored by Squish to unleash in Specials is represented by a long bar. It recharges slowly over time or by attacking foes. As it lowers, the bar turns darker and only the purple backing shows. A full bar is bright white.
Score
A display of the points gathered while in the dungeon, preceded by an S. It is increased through battling foes, getting items, and clearing a stage swiftly.
Timer
A counter displaying the amount of time Squish has remaining. If he doesn't clear the stage before the timer reaches zero (0), then no end round bonus will be awarded. The more time on the clock, the more points earned.
