Random notes from the Author
And so you made it all this way. Well, for anyone still with me, just as last time, I present an onslaught of factoids and random info. Frankly, if anyone is reading this, I'd be surprised. Seriously. To date, I only know of one die-hard fan to this fan fic. In fact, that person is the sole reason alone that LS:V was continued and finished in the time it even was. I just read the first epilogue that I wrote for book one, and, man, is that some weird stuff. I wasn't even suppose to write this sucker until I cleaned up the first book. Hah! Like that happened. Really, though, the entire book was more or less written for that one fan. He's the reason that I stringed chapter after chapter out since November of last year. And string I did.
Much like with the first book, I had only one real goal to accomplish: the last scene. All I wanted to do was have Mewtwo eat it as it got Perish Sung away by the ghost of Wrath. Nothing seemed sweeter to me. And, like the first one, I had to think of a way to build it up to that point, which took a really long time. I had practically nothing planned out, save the end sequence and very vague points (oddish evolves, gets a tentacruel and muk, nidoqueen kicks the bucket), and most everything just flowed out of my as I sat down that morning to write. A bunch of times, things flowed longer than expected, like the chapter with Nidoqueen's death. I actually did not intend for her dying to in anyway resemble that. She was just suppose to go out to pasture and live the rest of her life with a herd of other Nidos till her days' end, but then I thought of a great battle and, even better, a great, bloody murder on a old, defenseless man. And, with as long as that chapter was, there was suppose to be more! That chapter turned out to be one of the longest ones I had ever written and, not wanting to severe it into two since it already skipped time and flashed back, I just cut the less interesting parts out. Another part that I really wanted to have, but could never find a place to fit it, was Rei dueling in a stadium. When down to her last monster, she chucks out the Gengar, which just rolls onto the field unopened. The entire stadium was then suppose to break out into laughter but got drowned out by the ghost's as it drained all the light from the playing field, appearing as eyes and grin, sending waves of horror throughout the crowd. Ah, jeez, look at me. I'm getting too involved again.
While on topic of cuts and overrun, the last chapters are a good example. Chapter fourteen was, in total honesty, an accident. The original conception was that as Rei destroyed the Silph building, the last with the Mewtwo stuff, all of the birds just flew away and the Rocket leader was waiting there for her with the last of the men that contributed to her father's demise. Then there was suppose to be some big funky fight scene followed by the Rocket leader fighting her again with a Dragonite and Tyranitar simultaneously (yikes), thus totally exhausting her, making the Mewtwo battle more interesting or... something. And for the very last chapter, the original conceptions was quite different. The Rocket guy was not suppose to repent and was suppose to be taken away with the Hell train with Mewtwo, but then that left a really big hole in the set up for - ...
Something that I'm not sure if anyone picked up on, which I tried to make increasing obvious throughout the story, is simply, yes, Serenity was that way. She liked women. If you just had the slight notion of it possibly being true, I'm telling you its true now. It's actually kind of fun reading back over her parts with that in knowledge. That's a bunch of tiny jokes I slipped in for those who caught on. If you didn't catch it then, I'm telling you know: read the second chapter with the Grimer. Good stuff. Since I have no where else really to say this, I'll just cram it here. Serenity's brother was also another whimmed in character. I had no intention of there being another character in the Serenity vs. Rei chapters, but then I got the idea for some good nostalgia. A funny thing to note, when his character first appeared in the previous book, you may have noted that he bore no name, description, or information about himself in any way. That's just how good my writing skills got over time. It went from blah to blam in about a year!
Whew, this one is a lot longer than the first. I just want to get a few more points down, really just things that no one really knows about that are sort of interesting:
- Flubit: his name came from "furubito," the Japanese word for "deceased friend"
- Kaghane: the town got its name from "kage" and "hane," shadow and wing
- Mr. Itach: this weasel's name actually came from "itachi," or weasel
- Shade: the first in along planned series, he is a character from my R.E. League Gym
- Jack: of course, from my other alias, Jackdaw
Well, that's about all I wanted to say. Thanks for sticking by me. Oh yeah, if you couldn't figure it out already, the reason I had to fix that big plot hole at the end was so I had a set up for Lost Soul, Book Three: Redemption! That's right, it'll never end. But I wouldn't hold your breathe for this one as it may take awhile. I do about one book per version of the game released, that way I can add some fresh and interesting elements to it. That, and I start college at the end of the month. Free time = -5. Yippee... Really though, it will come, I promise that. I even have an ending all picked out...
